thanks and bye

it seems like we all agree that this has been a great class. I've learned a ton of things that I'm sure I'll be using professionally (and personally) for years to come. Most important, I think, is that I've become *interested* in uses of these technologies--and this, I hope, will encourage me to keep on top of new developments.

Thanks to everyone for their participation in the class--and well done on all your excellent final projects.

And thanks to Steve, for developing and leading the class.

final project!

here's a screencast on my ideas for the final project:

and here's the wiki itself--kind of a sample of what I envisioned:

to be avoided.

if you're trying to put together a screencast, do not vaccum the day before you plan to record the final take.

because then you might vacuum up your microphone, and in your still-slightly-Luddite haze, you may just yank the thing out of your vacuum and go on your merry way, vacuuming up large objects.

and then you may plug in your microphone, and find that it doesn't work.

something to think about.

oops! and sudoku (shep pettibone remix)

First: if you want to see the MP4 version of my tour o' Colls, click here: http://blip.tv/file/get/Mtscils598s07-Collingswood132.mp4 (right click to save)

I just learned that YouTube doesn't let you upload videos more than ten minutes long. Oops! Yes, I hang my head in shame that it took me eleven minutes and change to solve that puzzle. So I used Windows MovieMaker to edit out chunks and then I uploaded it to YouTube. I realized during the editing process that my narration leaves many, many things to be desired. The final YouTube video clearly makes no sense, but is perhaps more entertaining than its blip.tv sibling . . . and it still took a long time to upload. Here it is:

sudoku

Technical notes: I used the webcam for this one, and it took forever to upload on both blip.tv and YouTube. Did that happen to anyone else? It could have to do with the fact that this video is very very long. I won't be disappointed if you don't watch the whole thing.

Originally, I planned to do a video on how to give yourself a pedicure, because then I could do homework and paint my toenails at the same time. Then I realized that there are people out there who might really like to see my feet on video, I mean, in a not-very-nice way.

I'm sure there are people out there who get, um, excited over puzzles, too (insert Will Shortz joke here). But for some reason I don't feel so icky about that. So here it is, folks. Me doing Sudoku, pretty slowly:

Collingswood again--YouTube style
